I was referred to Alan Farrell by my GP in October 2022, my GP could see that I was really struggling and recommended that I speak to someone. He gave me Alan’s number and made the comment “this chap is working wonders for people”.
I was completely new to counselling, everything about it was new to me but I knew myself that I needed to do something or things were going to get worse for me both at home and in work. Pushing the door the first day was the hardest part but once I began the sessions with Alan, as hard as the first few were for me, I knew I was engaged in something that was vital for me if I was going to feel well again.
I had a lot to work through, I had no idea how much there was until we began to scratch the surface and talk through everything, we went back quite a distance, it was the first time I had ever spoken about most of the the issues in my life and slowly over time I felt myself become lighter, I felt like I was getting real help.
I stayed with Alan for a year meeting weekly at the beginning and as our time went on we moved the sessions a little further apart. I gained so much from the sessions, I honestly believe they changed the way I look at all aspects of my life for the better.
Knowing that I can return to Alan in the future if I need to see him is the most reassuring feeling, I’m deeply grateful to have met him and worked with him.
